If a deal is lost but I want to keep nurturing the lead how does it affect my reporting

If a deal is lost but I want to keep nurturing the contact and I change the Lifecycle stage from Opportunity back to Sales Qualified Lead will this affect my reporting showing that I have a new Sales Qualified Lead?
