How to fill Domain Name when None Exists

Hello!

My organization works a lot with very small businesses that do not have their own domain name. It's the primary field that HubSpot de-duplicates off of, however---are there any workarounds you've found about this?

Thanks,

Haley

Hi Haley,

HubSpot requires either the Company domain name or the object ID to prevent duplicate records. If this information is missing, a new company record will be created, even if an identical one already exists.

You have two options:

1) Import all records and then manually identify and merge duplicates within HubSpot.

2) Export all existing company records first, compare them with your import file using Excel or Google Sheets, and remove duplicates before importing.

This is the best idea I've had so far, but my scenario isn't starting from scratch, but working around an existing number of records to attempt to update.

However, I still don't have a good answer about what to do for a company who has no domain.

@hweatherford you might consider using Koalify, it will deduplicate based on other criteria so you can successfully manage smaller brands without domains.
