How to differentiate different languages spoken inside the same region

SOLVE

Hi all!

First off, thanks to anyone who checks this post out.

We have a situation where multiple reps hold a stake in a single country, and who should own the prospect that comes in, is based on the language they speak (I.e. French speaking vs. English speaking).

Aside from simply requesting the Sales reps to exchange leads as assigned as needed once they know the language - is there another way to manage/automate differentiating two diff languages in a single region by using properties/workflows?

Hi @ASimard,

It sounds like asking for the preferred language is indeed the way to go. Once you have this information, you can use it for enrollment in a contact-based workflow and assign the reps who should work that contact. If/then branches will help with the routing logic.

Do you feel confident creating such a workflow or should I draft one?

How to differentiate different languages spoken inside the same region

Hi @ASimard,

Could you specify what outcome you're looking for?

  • Do you want sales reps to update the records with the Preferred language when it's missing?
  • Do you want sales reps to not be able to contact someone if they don't speak a specific language?
  • Do you want to automatically assign records based on language?

All of these things can be done using workflows, yes. For example, the last one would enroll contacts when Preferred language is known, then branch out (workflow action If/then branch) and in each branch, you could use the Set property value action to update the record owner – of course keeping in mind that an existing owner could be overwritten. (A few more steps would be needed to prevent that, depending on the rule you'd like to apply then.)

But generally, yes, these types of actions can be easily automated using workflows.

Best regards!

Thank you very much for your attention to this matter, Karsten.

  • Do you want sales reps to update the records with the Preferred language when it's missing? That would be one approach - although preferrably prospects go to the correct preferred language recipient without reps updating.
  • Do you want sales reps to not be able to contact someone if they don't speak a specific language? This is an interesting point. Ultimately yes we want to have the correct rep speak to the appropriate buyer - but the primary goal is to get our French speakers in front French speakers, German in front of German, etc. Limiting who a rep can speak to solves half of it - how do we ensure the propsect gets in touch with the right person
  • Do you want to automatically assign records based on language? Yes, language and region based. One suggestion I thought was to perhaps add a question on our marketing forms for the buyer to state the language they speak.
