How to List my contacts by first name - edit property does not work

I try to list my clients alphabetically by their first name (truly a very very basic thing for any CRM, especially when you try to upgrade) but changing properties in the dropdown menu Action does not work. Contacts look messy. I can't find them quickly - true headache! Can you help? Thanks
