Generate unique account/customer ID# via workflow?

Hi guys, I'm looking for the best way to add Customer/Account ID's to HubSpot. They would be a series of six randomly generated alpha and numeric values. My end goal is to push these into QuickBooks as well.

Example: A0FD76

Is there a way I can accomplish this via a workflow by setting this property when an account is first created? Thank you in advance!

Hi @nicole388,

Out of the box, this is not possible in HubSpot but there are workarounds. You could use Zapier to send contacts from HubSpot into a Google Sheet. In this sheet, you'd have to come up with a taxonomy/rule for how to create a code for each contact. You could for example get inspiration this Excel tutorial. With the newly generated code for each contact, you could send these contacts back into HubSpot.

If you have the new Operations Hub Professional, this could also be achieved with custom code in workflows.

Lastly, if you don't have a specific taxonomy you want to follow, the Record ID might suffice, too. Each record in HubSpot receives a unique ID which can only be occur once.

Best regards!

I have a workaround for those that are trying to do this without Operations Hub! It's not pretty but it gets the job done.

Here's a tutorial about how to generate random numbers or strings in HubSpot that I wrote https://www.noboundsdigital.com/blog/how-to-generate-a-random-number-or-string-without-operations-hu...

Hi everyone,

We are using HubSpot Sales pro and also require the creation of a unique 4 digit customer code to be assigned to a COMPANY with a closed won deal. We cannot use any HubSpot ID's for this as we have already been assigning client codes manually and these codes are used in other systems. Of course because we already have active customers - the numbering needs to continue sequentially as N+1. Any idea if this is possible?

Thanks,

Kerrin

Hi @Karsten, is this still not possible to do? I am looking to do the same thing @KerrinBarker was trying to do.

Hi @IGuadarrama

I found this worfklow solution  by fellow top contributor  @bendonahower which has a tutorial on how to generate random numbers for your records automatically and could be helpful in this case!

I do have Ops Hub Professional so let me go ahead and investigate that. Thank you for that resource!

@nicole388  Does the ID have to be six digits?

If your ID doesn't have to be six values, you could just use the company record ID instead.
