Does deal closing date remain the same when deal moves the pipeline?

SOLVE

Hello,

In our company we renovate houses with state aid, and we have 3 pipelines for our deal: the sales representative one which moves the stages: appointment set - customer wants to think - not interested - customer SIGNED (which is the win closing stage).

Then once client SIGNS we move to the second pipeline: Application authorities submittted - approved - waiting - technical problem - administrative problem.

Now we absolutely need to track and filter our deals by month by THE DATE the sales representative SIGNS the deal and not when it is created (because sometimes it can be in different months between fixing appointment and actually signing).

So I filter deals by CLOSING DATE, but will it remain the same when the deal travels to another stages after it?  We need it to remain the same. I also set deal property to be set as SIGNED (which remains fixed), once it goes to SIGNED on pipeline, but Hubspot doesn't seem to track the date of status changes?

Thank you?

Does deal closing date remain the same when deal moves the pipeline?

SOLVE

Hi @Baba70,

HubSpot has this documented here: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/deals/hubspots-default-deal-properties

"Close date: [...] A deal's close date is also automatically set or updated by HubSpot when:

  • A user creates an open deal and does not manually select a close date.
  • A user moves a deal into a closed-won or a closed-lost deal stage for the first time.
  • A user moves a deal from a closed-won deal stage to a closed-lost deal stage, or from a closed-lost deal stage to a closed-won deal stage.

Please note: the close date is not updated when a deal moves from a closed-won stage to another closed-won stage, or from a closed-lost stage to another closed-lost stage. It will also not update if you're using a workflow or the Deal API to update only the Deal stage property and not the Close date property."

In other words, when you move deals to other pipelines, you need to make sure that deals do not encounter another closed-won or closed-lost stage. (It might not be named accordingly. Make sure to check your pipeline settings under Settings > Deals > Pipelines.)

Also keep in mind that moving deals from one pipeline into another will break certain reports, e.g. deal funnel reports.

Hope this helps!

Does deal closing date remain the same when deal moves the pipeline?

If the Deal Close Date is automatically updated when a stage is changes from Won status to a Lost stage, then that would mean report under Reports > Analytics Tools > Recurring Revenue is only reporting on open/won deals and cannot report on deals that have ocurred in the past, i.e. Lost recurring revenue. Revenue that was on that came off.

Right?

Hi, thanks for your answer.

We currently don't use funnel reports, so I guess the fact that the close date is set when the deal is moved to our Closed win stage and is not updated after, is what we need. It's one of the most important metrics for us.
