No, changing a contact's status for a subscription type (opt in, not opted, opted out) does not trigger an email to the contact.
... unless you have set up a workflow that enrolls contacts when they're opted into a subscription type, and which then sends a welcome email or similar.
Out of the box, however, no, no default automatic emails.
