Do Salesforce leads/contacts sync to HubSpot as marketing contacts?

Hey! I'm gearing up for a HbuSpot-Salesforce integration with an account that is currently using marketing contacts.

By default, are contacts/leads from Salesforce synced into HubSpot as marketing contacts or non-marketing contacts? I wasn't able to find anything that specifically called it out within HubSpot's documentation.

I'm assuming that contacts will be set to non-marketing, but I want to avoid a huge cost increase for the client if that's not the case.

Any insight is much appreciated! Thank you!

@jolle looking at the portals I've helped, it's in your power. In Settings > Integrations > Marketing Contacts, you'll find "your connected apps." Here you can turn on or off the "turn on sync contacts as marketing contacts."

Hope that helps!

Hi @jolle  this is a new one for me too, but Have you checked out the Salesforce Integration certification in HubSpot Academy?

Under Implementing the Salesforce Integration, there are a ton of videos and links to resources that might have the answer.

Hopefully, a much more qualified community member knows the answer for you! 🙂

replies and solutions prior to May 2025 were as a member of the community and are not an official response as an employee of HubSpot

@Jnix284 thanks for your reply and recommendation! I have taken the Salesforce integration cert, but I must have totally missed the marketing contacts section.

Like @danmoyle pointed out, there's a whole "Marketing Contacts" page under the integration settings where you can control which connected apps set marketing contacts.

Thanks again!
