Display a dependent property on Contact record once a selection is made

SOLVE

I've set a conditional rule that requires a selection for the property "Vulnerability" if the property "Vulnerable Client" has been set as 'True'. This works fine but the dependent property does not show on the Client record after a selection is made.

How do I set this conditional property to always display on the Contact record if a selection has been made? I can set it to permanently display but if the field is not needed this creates clutter when an empty property.

Display a dependent property on Contact record once a selection is made

SOLVE

Hi @Nautilus,

Do you mean that a selection within 'Product' determines which options are displayed within 'Policy number', for example?

This can be achieved through conditional options: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/properties/set-up-conditional-options-for-properties

If that's not what you're referring to, could you give an example?

Also, if my previous reply answered your question and you find it helpful (also for other forum members), consider accepting it as a solution. (It also helps me a lot.) I'll continue to reply, of course.

Best regards!

Hi @Nautilus

To ensure the "Vulnerability" property displays correctly when "Vulnerable Client" is set to 'True', review the conditional logic settings under "Properties" in HubSpot. Ensure the "Vulnerability" property is correctly configured as dependent on "Vulnerable Client." Verify property visibility, refresh records, and test with different contacts to ensure proper functionality and While HubSpot does allow for the creation of conditional properties that display based on certain criteria (like the value of another property), it currently does not have the functionality to automatically display a conditional property on the Contact record once a selection has been made. This means that if the property is not set to always display, it may not show up even after a selection is made, potentially leading to a cluttered view if you choose to make it permanently visible.

Display a dependent property on Contact record once a selection is made

SOLVE

Hi @Nautilus,

Currently, you would have to solve this with conditionally displayed fields in the left sidebar, via the record customization options: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/object-settings/customize-records

This would be double work – setting up the dependency and setting up a conditional sidebar. For important fields however this could be worth the effort.

If you're asking for a general feature that displays filled dependent fields, that's something you would have to request in the HubSpot Ideas section of the community: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/idb-p/HubSpot_Ideas

The product team reviews these requests based on their popularity.

Have a great day!

Display a dependent property on Contact record once a selection is made

SOLVE

Thanks @karstenkoehler. In this instance it's not worth setting up a conditional sidebar to display a single property, plus it would separate the dependent property from it's 'parent' property in a different sidebar.

We have a lot of scenarios where we want to collect (and show) more information that is related to the selection made in a 'parent' property.

e.g. Product Type(s) = 'Insurance' > Vendor(s) = 'Fidelity Life' > Policy Numbers = '12345' and '67589' > Products = 'Life Insurance' and 'Health Insurance'

Is there a way to create a hierarchial relationship between these properties? I thought dependent properties was the solution but it seems not if these will not be displayed (when completed) on the record.

@Nautilus dependend properties are the right way to go. Setting them up however does not affect what's displayed. These are currently the options:

  • Do not display the dependent properties
  • Create conditional sidebars to display the correct ones (apparently not feasible in your scenario)
  • Display all dependent properties, even the ones that don't apply for this particular record

Dependent properties are not (yet) set up to display conditionally. Others have requested this before: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/Allow-dependent-properties-to-persistently-show-on-th...

These requests submitted to the HubSpot Ideas section of the community are reviewed by the HubSpot product team, based on their popularity and the assumed demand. I'd recommend commenting and upvoting.

You can also help other HubSpot users find this request more easily (and drive traction) by accepting my reply as a solution. I'd appreciate it, too.

Thanks Karsten, I understand that dependent properties are not (yet) set up to display conditionally and have upvoted the request for this that you linked.

I'm still stumped on how to link selections made in a dependent properties to selection made in 'parent' properties above.
e.g. link a "product" selection to selections maded in the nested parent property of "policy number", "vendor" and "product type".

Maybe this also isn't possible (yet) in HubSpot?

Display a dependent property on Contact record once a selection is made

SOLVE

Hi Karsten,

I'm still new in HubSpot community but think I managed to accept your previous reply as a solution or at least upvoted it.

I understand that it is possible to conditionally displaying dependent options but this is not what I'm trying to do. I actually trying to link dependent selections made back to specific selections in 'parent' field(s). It's hard to convey an example in text but here goes:

e.g. Product Type: 'Insurance'

          > Vendor: 'Fidelity Life'
                   > Policy Number: '123'
                              > Products: 'Life Insurance'

                   > Policy number: '456'

                               > Products: 'Trauma Insurance

         > Vendor: 'NIB'

                   < Policy Number: '789'

                              > Products: 'Health Insurance'

In this example, the contact has life insurance' and 'trauma' products on different policies with 'Fidelity Life', and a single 'health insurance' product with 'NIB'. We can tell this because we've linked products up to a policy, linked the policy up to a vendor etc.

Storing data this way in a 'linked' hierarchy can power better reports and marketing. e.g. I send email all clients who have NIB health insurance with a promotion.

Hi @Nautilus ,

While we have the functionality to add conditional poperties, we don't have the functioanlity to display on the Contact record if a selection has been made but I agree this is a great idea to keep your contact view cluttered. I will advide the share the same on idea section of the community.
