Dependent Fields On Deals

Hi

I can see that dependant and progressive fields are available on forms but has anyone been able to create a dependent field in CRM?

I want to link two fields together so that if you select one value in one field then you can only select X values in the 2nd field.

The only work around I can think of is individual fields for each variation but that isn't practical.
