Deals Renew & Upsell SaaS Model

In a SaaS model with subscriptions and upsells, how do you manage deals and pipelines to effectively track renewals AND upsell/cross-sell opportunities?

Currently, I see two options:

  1. Two Deals, Two Pipelines: Create a deal in a Renew pipeline and another in an Upsell/Cross-Sell pipeline.

    • Limits:
      • If the upsell/cross-sell happens during the renewal, it would be better to have everything in one deal.
      • Parallel management of two deals complicates the process.
  2. One Deal, One Pipeline: Combine everything into a single pipeline.

    • Challenges:
      • Have you managed to include renewal stages and track the progress of upsells?

Which approach do you use and how do you handle these scenarios?
