Copy external values of dropdown select to a another property

lösung

When a dropdown select property is copied to a text property, the internal value is copied. Some cases this is ideal. For others, it would be helpful if the external value copied instead. Is there a way to clarify and select which value to copy?

Hi @00000,

As far as I know, there is not through the UI, know. This is a limitation of the existing workflow copy action.

Would it not be possible to do this using the set property action, instead of the copy property action using If/Then branches?

As in, if property Favourite Ice Cream is Vanilla, set property Confirmed Favourite Ice Cream to Vanilla.

If Favourite Ice Cream is Banana, copy Favourite Ice Cream property to Confirmed Favourite Ice Cream?

Or are there too many options available in the first property for this to be viable?

This has been frustrating for me at times as I've integrated third-party systems. There is one new exception to this limitation: user properties. HubSpot just relased a Beta for using the User object in workflows. This was the most common dropdown I needed to be able to pass to third-parties. For example, today I was able to create a text field to hold the name of a deal owner so that the name can be passed out to a subscription management solution for better reporting. This is one narrow but very helpful exception to the general limitation.

Thank you for your suggestion! In terms of the outline question asked, I think this is an "in box" solution.

In terms of this use case, too many options (200+) to be ideal for set up and tracking text changes across two properties, but we may not have a choice. Will look into dev work.

How can I get global search to display and search for external values of a dropdown select property?

Custom object property being searched for by users in global search is a dropdown select. Property's internal values are not 1:1 matches for external values. Global search can search for and return internal values, but not external values. This is not ideal. How can this be fixed?

In this case, 1:1 external:internal match is not an option.

The internal value is different because it needs to be an unchanging key that can be referenced across workflows or other apps, but the external value is how people refer to the property's information. The external value is also different because it references names that can change despite the internal value remaining the same.

Rats. Okay, thanks for your quick reply! I've submitted this to the Ideas forum.
