Hi @PSughrue,

When HubSpot shows this notice...

karstenkoehler_1-1629522459299.png

Fictional contact.

... this might also relate to a contact that exists but that you cannot see. Is it possible that an admin in your portal has restricted your permissions to see contacts? This is common practice to ensure that sales reps are working only their own contacts. An admin might have limited your contact access to contacts from your team only or contacts owned by you only.

If you're not allowed to see that contact, the contact wouldn't show up in the search. However, when you try to create the contact, HubSpot would still notice that this is a duplicate.

I'd recommend reaching out to your super admin / manager about this.

@Ian_Matt, I played around a bit with secondary email addresses and was able to make it work – but good to know this can be an issue!

Best regards!

Hey @PSughrue,

This is likely because the email address is the secondary email for this contact and the search function only includes primary email addresses.

Or is there a situation where you have a contact with the primary email that is not appearing?
