Company names showing up as "--"

Hi all, 

I have been running into an issue recently with multiple portals using the "Create and associate companies with contacts". Whether the contact is created manually or imported via .csv, I have had all of the companies show as "--" (screenshot attached). I have been attempting to use the Company Domain Name property as the unique identifier so that HubSpot automatically generates the name and links all contacts with the domain to the correct company. I'm curious if anyone else is running into this issue and if there is a fix, happy to provide more information as well. Thank you in advance for any advice!

Thank you for taking the time to help! I undertand what you are saying, but I know that in the past HubSpot would create and name a comapny based on the domain from the contact's emaill address if I were to create that contact inside of HubSpot (and from import historically). Is this no longer a feature? Thanks!

@Caseyhg that depends, does your portal still have HubSpot Insights? Insights are being phased out, see here: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/object-settings/hubspot-insights-on-company-records

If you check the settings in your portal, you'll also see a note about it.

Hi @Caseyhg,

The "Create and associated companies with contacts" option is no guarantee that HubSpot will be able to pull a name for each company domain name. In your import file, you would have to make sure that you also import and map a "Company name" for the company object. (It looks like you may have only mapped "Company name" on the contact object. These two fields are not in sync in any way or form.)
