Change unique identifier for contact properties

SOLVE

Hi, I have a spreadsheet with contact data that I would like to import into Hubsopt, but some customers in that spreadsheet don't have an email address, so I assigned a fake email address to all of them. When importing via API, I realized that the “email” property is a unique identifier and cannot be taken to Hubspot with identical values. Does anyone know how to select another property as a unique identifier?

Hi @VSilva16,

You can create custom properties and in the custom property settings require this new property to have unique values.

The email property however will always have the requirement for unique values. This cannot be changed and is embedded deeply into HubSpot as a CRM.

Hey Karsten, is there a way to at least define uniqueness of email in scope of another field.

For example what I mean. In our system we have clients from different regions and some clients may use the same email for different regions:
- emailA + regionA
- emailA + regionB
- emailB + regionB

Can validation be adjusted to take into account the `region` field (in our case) or drop email uniqueness validation completely specificly for our whole hubspot account?

Can we somehow request that change through support because that limitation starts to be a blocker for us?
