Buyer Intent Showing Gated Page Access from Unknown Company — Has Anyone Experienced This?
SOLVE
Hi everyone,
We’ve recently encountered a situation in HubSpot's Buyer Intent feature that I wanted to ask the community about.
We’re seeing intent signals from a company that is not in our HubSpot database, and we don’t have any known contacts associated with it. What’s puzzling is that the pages being accessed are gated and typically only available to a select group of people.
I reached out internally to a team member who does have access to those pages to check if they might know who from TSYS could have accessed them. But so far, we haven’t identified a clear link.
Has anyone else experienced something similar—where a company not in your database shows buyer intent activity on content that's meant to be restricted?
I’d love to understand:
How HubSpot tracks intent when the visitor isn’t in your CRM.
Whether this could be from a shared link, cached access, or a third-party accessing under a known domain.
Any insights or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!
What's being reported as pageviews is still likely from someone who has access, but what may be showing is the IP reference to the company is inaccurate or somehow intertwined with another company; those won't always be 100% accurate, from what I have seen. For clarity:
Company ABC given access to gated page
Company ABC visits page
Person visits page from a specific IP
In the HubSpot database they look up the above IP, but it returns Company 123 instead of Company ABC
Either the database is wrong, or Company 123 and Company ABC are on the same network...or other possibilities
Another scenario could be (depending on the access type), you sent the link to someone at Company ABC, but they were actually using the internet somewhere else; that IP lookup returned a different business name.
There could be other possibilities, but I think the above scenarios are logical.

Hi Hubspot Community,
I also have another questions, I have attached a screenshot above. What does it mean on the "top Page"? We currently don't have any partner page on our main site, what does it mean just the /, and is there a way I can see the full url?

Hi @DDias28. I think what @Josh said about the intent makes sense to me, too. Shared IP ranges, roaming VPNs, and shared networks could all affect company intent via IP address. As for the other question, "Top Pages" is just the highlights of most viewed pages. When there are more pages with higher views, you'll see those here instead of what looks like "all" pages. the "/" is probably your home page (many browsers add that slash). I couldn't guess as to why /partners would show up if it doesn't exist (I see a 404 page when I try https://genesis-capital.com/partners). Maybe it's a link someone created somewhere, or someone is trying to see if you have those pages.
