Bug Report - Country Code Incorrect for USVI

Hey guys,

The country code for phone numbers in HubSpot for the USVI is incorrect.  It's listed as +1340.  The country code for the USVI is just +1 same as the rest of the country.  If you enter a phone number with a 340 area code, it tries convert it to +1340 country code and formats the numbers wrong, removing the spaces before and after the area code.  Is someone able to fix this so it appears correctly?

Thanks!

Simpub

Bug Report - Country Code Incorrect for USVI

Hi @Simpub,

You're welcome! I'm back with a few follow up questions:

Can you provide us with an example of how the USVI country code should read?

Can you send me a DM with an example of the country code in your account?

Thank you 🙂

Best,

Kristen

Bug Report - Country Code Incorrect for USVI

Hi Kristen, happy to help.  I sent you a DM with a video.  To answer your question here, the United States Virgin Islands is formatted the same as all North American phone numbers.  It is a part of the U.S. so there is no difference than any other part.  The country code is +1 as it is for all USA.  The area code is 340.

Therefore, the number would be formatted as...

+1 (340) 555-1212

Just like NYC would be ...

+1 (212) 555-1212

In fact, there are many countries/islands in the Caribbean whose country code is also +1...  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Area_codes_in_the_Caribbean  In this map here, you can see they are all in blue…   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_country_calling_codes#/media/File:Country_calling_codes_map.sv...  For the ones where the entire island is one area code, they are shown as +1-XYZ.  These are all on the same system as the rest of the US/Canada.  On my HubSpot, when I add a contact, it's suggesting the USVI is a separate country with a country code of +1340 (a 4-digit country code).

It does the same for a number of islands, but it correctly has Puerto Rico as +1 and well as +1 for the Dominican Republic.  I was able to identify a number of islands/countries/territories for whom the software thinks it’s a 4-digit country code.

The end result, or one of them anyhow, is that it formats the phone numbers differently when they should all be the same.   Here’s the entire list of area codes within +1…  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_North_American_Numbering_Plan_area_codes

Hope that’s helpful and the video is helpful as well!

Thank you!

Mark
