Automate Contact -> Company Association

SOLVE

Is there a way in HubSpot or Insycle to automate the contact -> company association without using the HS feature that creates new companies?

I've read this and it's not what we need - https://knowledge.hubspot.com/crm-setup/automatically-create-and-associate-companies-with-contacts?K...

Our contacts usually have an email domain that's not their company [examples: they work for a school and their email domain is for the district, or the email domain doesn't match the school or district domain]

Right now, we're stuck manually associating every lead to a company and creating companies. This is not sustainable longterm. Short-term, I can perhaps find interns to help. But as our lead gen continues to increase, this just can't be done manually.

Ideas?

Do you have operations hub?

If so, you can do this via workflows as long as there is a field on both contact and company that match (ie. company name).

I agree, Rachel. It is a nightmare that this checkbox includes both 'create' and 'associate' in one. I do want matchings domains in contacts/company records to associate, but please Hubspot, don't create a new company record for every new contact domain!

How is no one else complaining about this?

Hi Rachel 🙂

HubSpot allows for native contact<>company association based on email domain matching the company domain name.  Is this something you are using?

If it's not what you are looking for, can I ask what rule you would hope to use to run the automation? How would you automate the association in an ideal world?

I'd be happy to look at possible options for you and report back here. I'm thinking along the lines of ops hub programmable automation or using something like Zapier.

Looking forward to hearing back!

Thanks, Olivia. I mentioned in the post that email domain doesn't work in our case.

Email domain is often not the same as a school or school district website domain. So this approach just creates duplicate company records.

And, school contacts often have an email domain that is used for a whole school district. In these cases, the email domain approach can both create duplicate company records and irrelevant company associations.

I think we might need to use the company name, or ask leads for their company website, or come up with a different solution
