We have HiTouch integrated with our CRM, however we are having troubles associating contacts and companies. Some contacts are sent to the CRM without beeing associated with a companie, witch is created in the same time as the contact.
My solutions to this problem was to use an common identifier, I was hoping to use the website URL and the companie domain. All the contacts that are added have an website URL that matches a domain in the companie that is created with the contact.
My question is: If I enable the automation to create and associate companies to contacts, will it create new companies for those contacts based on the common identifier, or will it just associate the contact to the existing company?
HubSpot's automatic company/contact association setting associates contact and company records based on the contact's email domain and the company's 'domain name'.
For example, if you have a company with the domain name of HubSpot.com and a contact with the email john.doe@hubspot.com then we will automatically associate John to HubSpot. If John is created first and HubSpot the company does not exist yet then we will first auto-create the company and associate it to John.
To answer your question, HubSpot only deduplicates companies based on the domain name property - not website URL. As long as your existing companies have the same domain name as the contact's business emails then we will not create them again.
Let me know if you have any questions on this or need further help with your data migration 🙂

Thanks @Olivia_Bagnall! My existing companies have a domain name that matches the website URL on the contacts. All the contacts have a generic e-mail, so in this case the website URL would serve as the second unique identifier, right?
