Append a multi-checkbox field from a form input

Currently, if a customer submits data in a Hubspot form, and one of the properties on the form is a multi-checkbox field, the newest entry will overwrite all previous entries. The ability to append data to a multi-checkbox field already exists in Hubspot. For example, when importing data, if you preceed the text to be imported in a multi-checkbox field with a ";", the data is appended, not overwritten. This same functionality is needed in forms.

Hi @Yo_Be_Low,

There is already a request for this in the HubSpot Ideas section of the community: Append properties from form submissions

The product team reviews these requests by popularity so I'd recommend upvoting and commenting. I did the same.

With a Professional subscription, there is a workaround using workflows. It requires a duplicate of the original property used in the form. Whenever the form property is overwritten ( = "known" in a workflow), this new value can be appended to the duplicate of the property. Far from ideal, as it's not available for free and Starter users. If you want to explore this workaround, let me know and I can share more details.

Best regards!

I encountered the same problem, and I think duplicate properties are still the fastest/easiest solution here. @Yo_Be_Low @BEKWL @ESaville2 @SSmallwood22 @CAtfield @andybarrandy @RBertsch
For pro plan users, this is what a workflow can look like:
* You have a property that is on your form. You wont use this for anything other than getting information into HS. In my case property is "tags", I named it admin_tags so its clear its not for other users.
* Now you duplicate this property, but name it differently so it's clear. The property setting and fields should be exactly the same. In my case, the new property is "Downloadable Tags."
* Create workflow that is triggered when admin_tags property is known or updated. Enable re-enrollment as well.Next step is using that admin_tags property, you copy the value to "Downloadable Tags" which is the property that is you want to use. In the copy step, you choose "Append to current value", that is the crucial part.  (see image)

I have the free version also had this problem. I have another work around for the free version, which is far from ideal but still do-able. Make a duplicate property which is included in the form which is checked.

Then make an active list in 'list' under contacts and select the property which is checked. Add another filter of the property with the multiple checkboxes where you would like to append a checkbox. Here you should specify that this checkbox is NOT checked.

When the active list is finished you click on the amount of contact who are in this list. Sometimes you have to wait 5 minutes for the list to update. You wll go to the contacts page with a filter 'List membership is any of [NAME LIST]'.

Then you select all contacts in this list and click on 'edit'. Select the property of multiple checkboxes and select the checkbox you would like to be checked. Then select the option 'Append current value(s)'

Depending on your needs you can do this once a month or more often.

It is not automated, but this is easier then handle each contact on itself

Karsten can you elaborate on how to do this workaround, using a pro account?  Thanks!
