Uploading zipped complete HTML page

Is there a way to upload a zip of a complete email without making a new, basically uneditable template?  It just seems silly that I can't build a complete email in Dreamweaver (or receive a zip from an agency) and upload it as is.  HubSpot is my preferred ESP out of the ones my company uses and it's unfortunate that I have to go to a different platform to do this.

Hi @coleycoley,

So it's not as simple as just copy/pasting an email to be sent. I think the main reason has to do with ensuring CAN-SPAM compliance. From our article here: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/articles/kcs_article/email/can-i-customize-my-can-spam-email-footer, "marketing emails must include the physical mailing address of your business and a link for contacts to manage their email subscription preferences". And so when building an email template, we require certain email variables to be present. Those required variables are listed here: https://designers.hubspot.com/docs/hubl/hubl-supported-variables#required-email-template-variables. Usually though if you can pinpoint what in your email needs to be replaced by the required variables, it should be possible.

Let me know if you have questions about that or if you come across any warnings / errors from the Design Manager that you don't understand. Usually though I think they'll be related to the missing required email variables.

I get that.  Whenever we get agency designed emails, we've had to add the unsubscribe stuff in on other ESPs, but we could still at least upload the completed zip and edit the code to add that.  I just think it's silly that we can't do that on hubspot because if you copy/paste code, you still have to go into your files, upload any images and then go through the code to find them and change the src address.  That's a lot of extra work.  Why isn't there a way we can upload a zip as the body of an email and then the CAN-SPAM compliant unsubscribe stuff can be added to the bottom?

So I would say that's probably worth submitting an idea for here: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/custom/page/page-id/ideaslandingpage. I did a search to see if there's an existing idea for this and I didn't find one. I've definitely come across this issue before and the best solution I've had is to copy/paste the code like so: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/articles/kcs_article/cos-general/build-a-custom-coded-template-in-hubs..., and then add in the required variables. But like you said, you'd still need to go through and edit things like image links.

If you're doing this easier on another platform, it would be great if you could submit an idea to that link above. And just provide as much detail as you can about how you're doing it easier with a different ESP. I can't speak to what our Email team will do, but I know they'll want to hear feedback about what's working vs. what isn't. For what it's worth, I could see that kind of functionality being really valuable to other content creators as well, where they could just upload a zip file and then have a working or near-working email.

The only other thing I could recommend here would be using FTP for some of this: https://designers.hubspot.com/docs/tools/hubspot-ftp. It still won't get you all the way there, since you'd still need to update file URLs in your email. But it might make the uploading a bit easier.
