Please help. I have no idea what to do, and I have attempted to read the help article, but it's jibberish to me. I want to connect my godaddy website and switch
What is DNS? Think of DNS as the internet’s phone book. It tells browsers where to find your website by linking a domain (your web address) to its server.
How to connect your GoDaddy domain to HubSpot:
Log in to GoDaddy: Go to your GoDaddy account and navigate to the DNS settings for the domain you want to connect.
Get HubSpot details: In HubSpot, find the DNS records (like A records, CNAME) that need to be added to GoDaddy.
Update DNS records: In GoDaddy’s DNS settings, add or update the records using the info from HubSpot.
For example:
HubSpot’s “Record Type” goes into GoDaddy’s “Type” field
HubSpot’s “Host” goes into GoDaddy’s “Name” field
HubSpot’s “Required Data” goes into GoDaddy’s “Data” field
Save changes: Confirm and save your DNS changes.
DNS changes can take up to 72 hours to fully propagate worldwide. To verify that your DNS settings have updated correctly, follow these steps:
A DNS is kinda like the address of your domain/server. Since you have your domain provided by GoDaddy, you need to tell HubSpot where the domain is "living". Imagine it like Google Maps(or any other navigation service). GoDaddy is your starting Point, HubSpot the destination.
So in order to connect your Domain with HubSpot, you need to login into GoDaddy, open the domain settings and paste the provided information from HubSpot into GoDaddy.
Basically you'll tell GoDaddy, that you want to go from GoDaddy to HubSpot.
I don't want to go to much into technical detail(what a record type, host ... is) but these are the translations/mappings
HubSpot
GoDaddy
Record Type
Type
Host
Name
Required Data

you have to keep in mind and add the values into the right field.
This guide should help you with the GoDaddy settings.
Please beware, that connecting a Domain to HubSpot:
will make your GoDaddy website(if you have one) inaccessible/not available
So if your HubSpot website is not ready to launch, I wouldn't connect the domain yet.
A few more notes:
If you'd like to access the GoDaddy website after the HubSpot website is connected in the future, I'm recommending to create a subdomain and connect it with the "old" page. A subdomain will look something like this: old.YOURDOMAIN.com
A domain/DNS connect can take up to 72h. So don't worry if your freshly build HubSpot website won't be available right away.
It might be required to delete/edit exiting DNS settings in GoDaddy. This might cause quite a lot of bad things. Nothing that the GoDaddy support won't be able to revert, but it will take time. Therefore my recommendation is to somehow backup the default settings before applying any changes. A screenshot can be a backup 😉 Not a perfect one, but a backup
