INVALID_PRIMARY_VID_TO_MERGE when trying to merge two contacts

SOLVE

Hi. 

We recently created 2 contacts ( customer reached out to our support email and website chate ( linked to hubspot)  via name@company.com and then with info@company.com ) - we trying to merge into 1 account . 

We keep getting this error:  - found it when looking at Chrome Console

Accounts look ok to me. So I don't even know what to fix, to finish the merge. 

Any suggestions or ideas?

SOLVE

Hubspot support is going to have to work through this with you. I'd suggest scheduling a session where you can screenshare or working with someone in live chat, then having them escalate the issue. This is a bug somewhere.

Are you attempting to merge thiese in HubSpot app? or is this an app you have built?

Hi. 

Nope. That's directly on hubspot.com - trying to merge 2 contacts through web UI.  Multiple users are running into the same issue.

Hi @konung,

 

Thanks for reaching out to the Community!

 

I've seen a similar issue before, and it was resolved by removing and then re-adding the email address for each contact. This step should help mitigate the current issue you're experiencing.


You could go in the UI, or use the APIs, to update the contacts to have empty email addresses.
