How do you create a custom blog masthead with a conditional HubL module?

Hi there

First and foremost I'm a marketer by trade, not a designer so have a basic level knowledge of CSS/HTML/Javascript.

I've recently downloaded the Hubspot Aero 2016 blog template, but the blog homepage masthead is applied across all individual blogs as well as the blog homepage. What I'd like is for each blog to have it's own featured image within the mastehead - so would need the template to pull image from a seperate source.

I'm looking to change this, and Hubspot recommended using a conditional HubL module, but neither I or my team are particuarly familiar with HubL so Hubspot recommended using this forum. Is there a standard HubL for what I'm trying to achieve?
