Here's the best explanation on how to do this I think. Here's another from @karstenkoehler, which is also referenced in the previous.
Depending on the type of content you're collecting and the number of properties, updating existing contacts in the system MIGHT be a bit trickier, but I believe it would still be possible. You may want to refer to @danmoyle's description here.
