Email mobile responsive padding issues

I used hubspot's drag and drop builder to create an email template. It previews perfectly on desktop but in both the mobile preview and on actual devices the padding is removed and images are not scaling as expected. My understanding is that the drag and drop should be responsive out of the box. Please help.

I found this post (https://community.hubspot.com/t5/CMS-Development/Email-padding-issue-on-mobile/m-p/85765) that explains padding is removed when applied to outter rather than inner on mobile but the group only has inner padding applied. I can also see that in the browser inspector the td padding is being set to 0 !important on mobile. How can I override this? Why would this be defualt mobile settings?
