Custom copy of Elevate theme - marketplace modules not available

Hi, 
I've set up a HS project and modified github copy of Elevate Theme. I deployed it, was able to create additional react modules and they work fine. The problem I have now is that I cannot find a way to use marketplace modules with this theme. When I create a new page or edit existing one I can only use HS modules or the ones I've created. 

Marketplace modules are only shown when I switch back the theme to a "built in" Elevate not my custom one. 

Additional info: 

• I've tried: editing theme.json & fields.json
• My theme is not a child theme

Not sure if it's related, but in the reply from @Jnix284 on this post "How can I clone a module to edit it?", I see that the Elevate theme is built in projects using React, it's only available via the CLI (not in Design Manager) and child theme functionality is not currently supported.
Elevate is used for Case Studies, but it has also replaced Growth theme as the default theme for new websites.

I would appreciate any help that would let me use marketplace modules in my customized copy of Elevate. I'm planning to use Elevate from now on in three future projects, and my only issue is with marketplace modules not showing up.

Did you also check the solutions from @KhushbooRevOps and @SteveHTM on this post "How to customize marketplace module", it might point you in the right direction.
