Hey HubSpot Community,

My name is Patrick, I’m a member of our onboarding team here at HubSpot. Welcome to our 2nd CMS Hub AMA! We loved answering all your questions in the last AMA and we hope to provide even more information on the ins and outs of CMS Hub. We’ll be available to answer questions from April 5 - April 9, so please feel free to ask us anything.

If you’re not sure where to start, try some of these:

  • How can I gate pages behind a social media login?
  • How do I build my own theme using the local development tools?
  • How do I add structured data to a page? Is it worth it?
  • I want to host my website on a root domain, not a subdomain. Can I do that?

We have members of the HubSpot product, developer, and services team here to answer any questions you might have.

Luke Summerfield (@Lukesummerfield) - CMS Hub Go-To-Market Lead, Product

Nicholas mentioned during Meet the Makers that memberships was being pushed down to pro, unless we misunderstood.  Is that true and is there any timeline to that?

Hello there - We're creating a custom CRM card, and our client wants to know if it will appear "in the center" of the contacts list. We wanted to make sure this wasn't possible before responding no. We recognize that the CRM cards on the right panel can be rearranged. We will provide the client with the option of creating and displaying activity records. Is it right that the CRM card cannot be shown in the middle panel? Thank you so much!

Hey @CGreenia, it looks like you're trying to send a one-to-one sales email from the CRM. Are you able to connect your email by completing one of those connection wizards? You could also take advantage of your account's BCC address so you can keep emailing while logging the emails back to Hubspot!

Hello Patrick,

We are fairly new to Hubspot, so this is probably a very basic question.  How do you create a follow-up to a task created?

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Hi @FAl-Qawi, welcome!  Depending on what exactly you're trying to do, either you can create a new task after completing the first one or if you're logging an event on a contact's timeline, like a call for example, there is a checkbox to "Create a task to followup"

I am still pretty new with Hubspot and spending more time to learn it.

One question I have is on tasking. Currently, I have been using outlook to set up tasking. I am now using my crm to task on contacts. But is there a way to do general tasking off of hubspot that is not related to a contact? I am sure I will have more questions as I go along. Thanks

Hi @vmikesell, if you go to your tasks tool (Sales > Tasks), you can create tasks from the tool without associating that task to any record in HubSpot

Hello,

I have three different questions. I currently develop my first website in HubSpot CMS and I struggle with the following:

1. Is there any way in HubSpot to code advanced post filtering module for blog posts? I would like the users to be able to filter blog posts based on tags, authors, industry type and blog post type (e.g. infographic, video) and I cannot find a way to make it work. Should it be database-based? Or is a better approach to base it on URL variables?

2. The second questions is closely related - how can I set and get URL variables in this CMS?

3. I also struggle to integrate Instagram Feed on the website. Are there any known integrations that I could use? For now, I used a JS-based library to achieve it but sometimes the feed is broken.

Thanks 🙂

How do we set up emails via DNS on Cloudflare if Hubspot doesn't support CNAME flattening? Any alternatives?

Hi @steffieharner

Thanks for your question! Cloudflare's CNAME flattening specifically applies to CNAME records for your root or apex domain. When connecting your email sending domain to HubSpot the CNAME records that are generated for email DNS will include specific subdomains (here is anexample of what the host names will look likehs1-[youportalid]._domainkey). For this reason you shouldn't have a problem connecting your email sending domain if your domain/DNS is hosted with Cloudflare - just make sure you disable DNS proxy when saving the records per these guidelines on connecting domains within Cloudflare specifically.

Hope this helps! 🙂

Hi, I'm increasingly running into situations where a client has a new blog in HubSpot and an older website somewhere else, like WordPress. I often wind up doing work twice or missing instances entirely, like for separate footer files that look identical but are on different platforms. Are there recognized best practices or efficiencies for retaining consistency of code and content across HubSpot and another platform?

Hey @melindagreen

We don't really have any official HubSpot prescribed best practices for this situation. I'd say best practice is really to use one CMS, but there are good reasons that can put you into that situation, such as needing to ease into a migration from one CMS to the other vs full rebuild for budget reasons.

I'll also say, there may not really be true best practices here, just decisions to make maintaining the duality of the sites less difficult. That said, I've been in the same boat before in past work.

Ideally for development and maintennance sake you would share some if not most of the same code. There are a few approaches you can use. You'll ultimately need to pick what is right for you, your team, and the specific circumstances of the website.

1. Go all-in-on JavaScript, effectively bundling a full component (HTML, styling, interaction handling) for a header/footer, leave a placeholder to render that content into, on both the HubSpot hosted site and the WordPress site. Then you load the same JS file on both the HubSpot and WordPress site.
Pros: all your code is in one place for the header/footer, updating it will update it will update both sites.
Cons: It's harder to tie either CMS's menu functionality into it. May experience a flash of a headerless site on inital page load (there are ways to mitigate that though). If JS is disabled in the browser the menu won't work - may not be a significant issue because if JS was required for the menu to function anyways, you're not seeing a significant difference. Still I'd leave a simple fallback.

2. Treat both sites as one big codebase with shared files. When you build and deploy. You just ignore files on upload based on the platform and upload shared changed files to both platforms at the same time.

Pros: You can share some code, but there will still be platform specific code in there. Code will live separately on each site.
Cons: May be a bit messy. You will likely be using both CMS's menu functionality.

If you need to have search functionality I'd consider whether the search for the HubSpot side, and the WordPress side need to return the same full results.
For example if you're hosting just the blog on HubSpot but the website pages on WordPress, maybe it's not important the two search experiences are identical. For example if you're searching on the blog, you're probably wanting to search the blog. So you could make the input explicit "search the blog" "search the site". There are third party services though you could use which can provide decent JavaScript based search functionality that can work on both platforms.

Would love to see some answers from the community on this though as I'm sure this is common and others may have solved this in other ways.

I lost on this response.

My question was is there a way to do daily tasking off my crm on items that are not connected to a contact. If I can, I will stop using my google calendar.

Hi @BAmiral ,

Thank you for your question here - "PJAMM HubSpot" refers to one of the records (contacts/ companies/ deals etc.) that you've logged this email against. Is "John Johnson" a member of your company? If so, it makes sense that this forwarded email is logged against one of his records. Hope this helps!

What is the best pattern / steps to take Contacts and make a list for direct contact by particular team members?    Yes, we assign the Contacts to them.   What Lifecycle Stage, Lead Status do we assign to them or other Filter do create a list of contacts to discuss?

The KB talks about creating tasks for them all but that's premature.  We want some lists , by team member, of contacts that are not yet Leads that we can discuss *before* assigning a Sequence.

Is there a step by step recipe?
