Will removing my domain from HubSpot affect my file links?

SOLVE

We’re in the process of moving our help center to a new platform, and the domain support.castandcrew.com will soon be pointed to the new system. In the past, we’ve linked to files hosted in HubSpot using URLs under this domain (e.g., support.castandcrew.com).

Before we make the switch, I’d like to confirm:

  • What happens to the file links that currently use the support.castandcrew.com domain once we remove this domain from HubSpot?
  • Will the links redirect automatically, or will users encounter a "broken link" error?
  • Any guidance on how to handle this transition smoothly would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Shannon

Will removing my domain from HubSpot affect my file links?

SOLVE

Hi @SCruz11,

To answer your questions directly:

What happens to the file links that currently use the support.castandcrew.com domain once we remove this domain from HubSpot?

The files will continue to exist but will no longer be accessible if the link contains support.castandcrew.com domain. Users will encounter 404 errors when trying to access any existing links on that domain.

However, the files will remain available through the default file hosting domain, which will look something like: 1234567.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net, unless you have another domain connected to the portal, in which case you could still make files accessible through that other domain.

Will the links redirect automatically, or will users encounter a "broken link" error?

Unfortunately, links will not redirect automatically because the domain would no longer be connected to HubSpot. You would need to set up redirects on your new platform.

Now whether you can do anything about this depends on whether your new platform supports redirects. If it does and allows flexible redirects, you could try setting up a redirect like this:

From: support.castandcrew.com/hubfs/*

To: XXXXXXX.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net/hubfs/*

(or XXXXXXX.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net/hubfs/XXXXXXX/*)

The XXXXXXX represents your portal ID and the asterisk would represent that you want to match anything after that final slash (the actual method of setting that up on your new platform may differ).

To double check what your default file hosting domain would be, you can go to file manager in HubSpot and check the "Access and URLs" section when previewing a file:

Hope this helps!
