We have a Hubspot setup with two business units and one of the units already has a website and domain in Hubspot. I am trying to work on the second business unit, but I am not allowed to add a new Primary Domain as Hubspot says that is already been assigned...by the other business unit. Without the domain, I cannot create new webpages under the second business unit as there is no domain to assign them to, so everything get's placed in the first business unit.
I was successful in adding the second domain as a secondary domain, but again, I cannot connect it as the primary domain for the business unit AND I cannot get a temp URL for which to develop my new pages under while my current site remains live.
It sounds like you're having trouble setting a primary domain for your new Business Unit.
From what I gather, you've already set a primary domain for your other Business Unit. It's important to note that you can't set the same primary domain for multiple content types within different Business Units. However, you can still connect these domains as secondary domains as you mentioned you did.
There is no difference between the two apart from the fact that when you create new content they will default to the Primary domain for that content type but this can be changed as you are creating the page.
So yes, another company set up the first Business Unit and they used one URL for the Website, Landing Pages and Email. When I go into my other Business Unit and try to add a primary domain, it does not allow me to do so for Website, Landing Pages or Email, so I set up the secondary domain. Unfortunately, I cannot point my DNS to Hubspot yet as I still have a live site in WordPress running while I develop this new site. When I go into Website to create new pages, I have to select a domain to associate it with and I can only choose the domains from the first Business Unit and by default, the pages are assigned to the first Business Unit and not the one I need it to be.
Does that make sense? On stand alone accounts, I am able to use a temporary Hubspot URL, but there doesn't appear to be one assigned to the second Business Unit and there are no clear instructions on what to do.
