How To Improve Poor Landing Page Speed?


Hi everyone, 


According to google page speed insights and testmysite with google, the speed of our landing pages based on HS templates is very slow.


However, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to make the suggested speed changes to the HS templates. It seems that many of the suggestions (eliminate render blocking javascript above the fold, compress resources with Gzip, compress images further than what HS does already etc) are not possible to do from within hubspot without technical assistance.


Any ideas how we can improve page speed using Hubspot (without developers) or does this definitely require a developer to optimise the templates?

HubSpot considers the ideal page load speed for your website's HTML to be less than 1.5 seconds.

You can view the page load speed for the HTML of your HubSpot page in your HubSpot Marketingaccount by navigating to Content > Landing Pages or Website Pages. Click the name of your published page, then click the Optimization tab. Within On Page SEO details, click View next to Page Load to see the load time for your page.


If you compare the page load time in HubSpot to other free website speed tests, the results are likely to vary. Most external speed tests crawl every aspect of your website, rather than a specific page’s HTML.
If page performance is reporting a longer than expected page load time for one of your pages, here are some possible causes:

  1. Image size: we recommend resizing images offline before uploading them to a webpage, so that larger images do not need to fully load with a page. Use a photo editing tools (MS Paint, Photoshop, Microsoft Picture Manager, etc) to resize an image to your desired dimensions and then re-add the image to your page. HubSpot will automatically resize any photos on your HubSpot-hosted pages.
  2. Broken links: Page performance shows any broken links on a page. Resolve these errors to ensure that they do not interfere with page load time.
  3. Amount of rich content: avoid adding large amounts of rich content to a single page (ex. multiple images, gifs, embedded videos, etc). Not only will each element need to load, which could potentially slow down the page’s load time, but cleaning up the amount of visual content will also improve a user's experience.
  4. Broken code: while HubSpot does not factor the load speed of a custom code file (ex. the time it takes to load a custom JavaScript file), broken inline code within the HTML of a website may increase page load time.

Please note: there are dozens of different factors that may be causing an increased page load time for both HubSpot and non-HubSpot pages. If you are still seeing a long page load time after correcting the above items, you may need to work with your web developer to further optimize your website.

Thank you for the answer and reply.  


The problem that I have with it is that Hubspot doesn't rank our website pages for speed, that mean anything in the real world.  Google and Bing and others do that.  Again, Hubspot's speed tests really don't mean a thing. If Google tests your site and they say that your site speed is " X ", then that's what it is and Google will score you based on their system, not what Hubspot says or thinks..


Google's page tester, as many others have posted about, tests GZIP, placement of js and other items that are out of the control of us, the customer.  If we're to be able to manage our websites, then these items that are industry standard, have to be adjustable/configurable/actionable.....




Page Load is no longer available on the SEO Optimization.
