The developer that made my website on HubSpot did not use a theme. It's all just HTML and CSS. I want to switch over to a theme and start incorporating new pages using templates from that theme. What is the best way to do that without messing up what I have on there currently?
What I mean is, if I make a new homepage that is a separate file, how can I make it replace the current one that doesn't have the new theme? I don't want to set up a redirect. Is there a way to save-over and publish-over the original homepage when ready?
I would highly suggest you do this. Go to the Hubspot Marketplace and get yourself a Free and easy-to-use theme. Then play around with building NEW webpages on the theme. It'll look something like this:
Currently I have about 6 different themes built in our area. (That's excessive...but I like to play.) I can click the Change Theme option to pick a different one, see what templates are available and make new pages.
It doesn't mean you have to publish everything you build. And you can delete these things in the future. But there is no harm in experimenting with installing new Themes, building new pages and seeing how it goes for you. Learn what works for you and what doesn't. Then make a final decision about what exactly you will use and charge forward with knowledge and confidence. (Eventually, delete all the stuff you didn't use.)

Totally doable! You don’t need to mess with your current live site to switch to a theme.
Here’s a simple way to do it:
Go to the HubSpot Asset Marketplace and download a theme you like (free or paid). These themes come with pre-built templates, so you won’t need to design everything from scratch.
Create a new homepage as a staged page, and while setting it up, make sure to select the new theme.
Once you're happy with how the staged homepage looks, you can publish it and set it as your live homepage (without needing a redirect). Just use the same URL slug (/) so it replaces the old one.
This way, your current site stays untouched while you build and preview the new version safely.
