[Closed] [AMA] Ask Us Anything about Legacy Scoring Sunset | July 28 - August 1
Hi HubSpot Community,
My name is Melody Cooke and I work on the Product team at HubSpot. I'm hosting this AMA to answer all of your questions about the Legacy Scoring Sunset and help you navigate the transition to our new Lead & Health Scoring apps.
🗓 Our AMA will be open from Monday, July 28 to Friday, August 1.
Unsure what to ask about the Lead Scoring Sunset or where to start?
Here are a few example questions I can address during the AMA: 1) Now that I'm rebuilding my scoring, what are some common mistakes you see teams make that I should avoid? 2) How should I communicate this change to my team, and what training might they need?
3) Are there any new scoring strategies or approaches you'd recommend that weren't possible with the legacy tool? 4) What's the best way to test my new scoring models before fully switching over from the legacy system?
5) Are there any specific use cases or industries where you'd recommend prioritizing the Health Scoring app over Lead Scoring, or vice versa?
⬇️ Drop your questions about the Legacy Scoring Sunset in this thread and we’ll be happy to answer them!
Why are we sunsetting the legacy scoring tool? We're moving toward more powerful and flexible scoring capabilities. The newer Lead Scoring and Health Scoring apps offer enhanced functionality that better aligns with how modern businesses qualify prospects and nurture customer relationships.
What happens on August 31, 2025? Legacy scores will stop updating and freeze at their final values. Any lists, workflows, and apps referencing legacy scores will use these frozen values. After August 31st, the legacy tool will be removed, but frozen scores will remain in your portal for reference.
When and how should I migrate? We recommend migrating as soon as possible. Migration isn't automatic – you'll need to recreate your scoring models in the new system. While this requires some work upfront, it's actually an opportunity to refine your scoring approach using these powerful new features. Check out our community post and demo videos for guidance
Do I need to turn off my old scoring to prevent double-counting? No, the legacy and new scoring systems are completely separate and won't interfere with each other.
What new capabilities will I gain? The newer Lead Scoring and Health Scoring apps offer threshold properties, custom event scoring such as usage data, advanced associations, decay/recency/frequency, score history, list exclusion, reset capabilities, and AI scoring (specifically for contact fit and engagement scoring for Marketing Hub Enterprise).

Can we bring back negative scoring to go into negative numbers?
USECASE 1
Eliminating competitors and internal people. We set them to way below zero as a means of auto-rejecting them.
USECASE 2
Quickly differentiating contacts who are a known 'bad fit' from contacts who are just an email address and their current fit level is unknown (in other words, genuinely = 0).

Hi @user001 , thanks for sharing this feedback on negative scores! As @CHawkins mentioned, we recommend using exclusion lists for eliminating competitors and internal people , though we are evaluating how best to approach differentiating bad fit and engagement from the unknown fit / lack of engagement.

Can you please provide an example of how the "Add frequency" filter can be used? I´m creating a scoring criteria adding points for each unique email open event. However, the scoring tool is adding points for each email open event, even if the email was opened more than once.
If the "Add frequency" filter is not the right solution for this. What do you suggest? Thank you

Hi @mauricio_santos , To clarify your question, are you looking to score the first email open for each individual contact for unique emails? If this is the proper interpretation, there currently isn't the most scalable way to do this, but functionally this is possible by having each criterion reference each unique email and then using "limit to _ points" (click the dropdown arrow next to "Score every time"). Attached is an example. Thanks for the feedback and hope this helps!

Hi @meagan_pal , While you can't convert a combined score to be an engagement or fit score (nor vice versa), you can save a combined score with just either engagement or fit groups. All 4 score properties of a combined score will still be created though Total score value Fit score value

Can the order of individual properties within the objects sub-sections of an "Event Group" or "Property Group" on the Criteria page be changed or is the order in which they appear only determined by the order that they were added?
[Closed] [AMA] Ask Us Anything about Legacy Scoring Sunset | July 28 - August 1
Hi @meagan_pal , The order of individual criteria within groups can be changed by clicking the up and down arrows at the top right of each criteria. Thanks for this feedback!

thanks Melody - however I notice this is re-ordering is only for the events and objects within the groups, not the individual criteria within the event/object, in the case where an event or object containts 2 or more criteria. I have attached an example. Will it be possible to re-order the criteria themselves in the future?

Hi @meagan_pal , Ah that's correct thanks for clarifying! I've shared this with the team as feedback on how to improve the UX of the tool. Thank you for calling this out!

Hi @user001 , Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Can you confirm which part of the tool you were in or which page you were on that showed this message? Improving performance issues is very important to us.

Many of my legacy scoring models utilized "and" criteria. For example job title contains "president" AND "information technology", or contact has visited the pricing page AND case study page.
That is not an option in the new tool. What alternatives do you reccomend?

Hi @user001 and @CHawkins , Thanks for this feedback and sharing these use cases! Creating scoring rules with "and" is on our roadmap for Q3 2025.
In the meantime, we recommend using List Membership for property groups (fit) and Workflow Enrollment for event groups (engagement). This allows you to create as complex conditions as you would like to score.

I work with many organizations that have Sale Pro or higher, but not Marketing Pro or higher. This means they don't have access to the Marketing > Lead Scoring menu item. All of the articles and training I'm finding is directing me to this menu, but stating that it's available for Sales Pro+ users. What am I missing? How should I help these clients build out lead scores?
I'd like to prevent buildling out workflows to manage this. Thank you!
Sales Hub Pro and Enterprise users have access to Lead Scoring for scoring companies and deals. Our engineering team is currently working on a fix to make sure the access is automatic for Sales Hub Pro only users when they navigate to Marketing > Lead Scoring, in the meantime your clients can update this access in Settings > Users & Teams > Edit Permissions > Marketing > Deal Scoring. Toggle Deal Scoring, View and Edit to "on".
