Good question. Either way will work just fine in most cases. However, if you are currently using tracking at the adgroup or ad level, it will override HubSpot's tracking, which is done at the campaign level.
For parameters applied at the account or campaign level, HubSpot's Ads tools will work the same no matter what UTMs you have. If you get rid of your UTMs, then HubSpot will apply UTMs for you. If you keep your own UTMs, then they won't be overwritten by HubSpot.
Hope this helps!

Tagging desti-URLs in AdWords with UTM is what I'm accustomed to. Then setting up fields in HubSpot and Salesforce, so it flows all the way through to Salesforce, for reporting there.
Form on AdWords landing pages need hidden fields to receive the tagged parameters.
Is all of this still best practice / state of the art? Trying to save myself work if I can.
