No contact tracking for Facebook Ads linked to website

SOLVE

Intro:

I created a Facebook Ad that links directly to our website (sign up page). The ad does not create Leads in Facebook (so it does not collect customer data), but it counts the number of conversions/signups because I linked the Facebook Pixel to our website.

The Problem:

In Hubspot I correctly set up the Ads section with our Facebook Account but the number of"contacts" remains zero although we collected conversions through the ad.

Hypothesis:

I suppose that Hubspot only counts Leads that come for example from a facebook lead form and that submitted their contact information. Signup-conversions remain anonymous in the Facebook dashboard.

My two questions:

  1. Is it - at least - possible to let Hubspot count and show the number of conversions (on the website) that are linked to the respective FB ad?
  2. Is it also possible that Hubspot creates a contact for every conversion? In the end customers register with their contact information (on our website) when they clicked on the facebook ad so couldn't Hubspot just create the contact?

I'd really like to know which signups come from Google and which from Facebook. If I import them manually from our website to hubspot the source is just "Offline Sources / CRM UI".

Thank you for your help!!!

Elias

No contact tracking for Facebook Ads linked to website

SOLVE

Alright, I think I found a solution or at least a workaround for that. Props to you @TomM2 it involves the HubSpot Tracking Code.

Fortunetly, Hubspot also supports Non-Hubspot Forms on your website.

This means, that a contact will be automatically created as soon as someone signs up on your webpage, because in most cases this is considered a form type that Hubspot recognizes.

So far it works for the people that come from Google Ads and sign up. It should therefore also work with the Facebook Ads that refer to the webpage's sign up page.

I will keep you guys updated when I find out if hubspot recognizes where the created contacts come from (Google or Facebook for example).

No contact tracking for Facebook Ads linked to website

SOLVE

Hey @Dorstel great to hear you found a solution. Although to be honest longer term I'd plan to find a solution outside of non-HubSpot forms. Non-HubSpot forms is a script that runs on the page, so if someone has scripts blocked or some sort of browser conflict you'll see lost leads. Also if you have your form creating contacts and non-HubSpot forms capturing leads you're going to see issues where the contact creation might happen first or non-HubSpot forms might happen first. So you will definitely see a few inconsistencies with this.

Non-HubSpot forms is a great temporary solution for on-boarding onto HubSpot, but I would 100% recomend against it as a permanent or even reliable solution for capturing effective leads into HubSpot.

I'd definitely recomend using HubSpot forms or integrating your existing forms into HubSpot.

Solution found - Contact tracking works with signup page for our platform using "non hubspot forms" feature (but with limitations, that Tom explained).

> install hubspots tracking code to your website and enable non-hubspot forms submissions

Conversions also show up in the marketing > ads section.

Hey @Dorstel the submissions on your page if coming from an add *should* populate the contacts section on your ads, there's more information on this within the knowledgebase here which also has suggestions on settings you need to enable for this to happen.

Yes, HubSpot forms create a contact for every submission, as long as it has the email field on the form (unless you've enabled the setting to create contacts without an email). Are you not seeing this? If not do you have an example of someone who did not have a contact record created?

In general, HubSpot will capture any sources it can, these can be found under the original source properties

Thank you for your answer Tom!

I will try the recommendation regarding the tracking code.

I have to mention though, that we do not use hubspot forms.

The desired flow looks like that:

User clicks on FB Ad > user gets redirected to user registration page > user creates an account > hubspot contact will be created with a property referring to the source (Facebook Ad ID for example)

I will get back when I have tested the tracking code solution.

Oh! If you're not using HubSpot forms or a form integrated with HubSpot then the ads dashboard won't register a contact. It needs to be a HubSpot form or integrated form for it to register a contact. Without the form submission it can't recognise the contact as a converted lead, it sounds like you're using the forms api to send registrants to the CRM, which wouldn't register as a conversion, that basically registers as an imported contact.

If you created the integration between your registration form and HubSpot, it might be worth looking into changing the api used for this from the create contacts one to the forms api, as this will register them as a converted lead.

For now we just integrated Facebook with Hubspot and contact creation seems to work perfectly fine - even with Facebook Forms. Contact creation and conversion tracking works for our Facebook Forms Ads.

We just need to get it work for Facebook Ads that link to the "Register" page as well. Otherwise the marketing report is kind of falsified because it says 0 contacts for one ad that actually generated multiple leads.

We also need Hubspot to recognize when a "sign up" comes from the Facebook ad. I am not sure if we can manually adjust Hubspot's API communication with Facebook.
