Different stats on Google Ads to Hubspot forms

SOLVE

Hi everyone we have started to use Google ads through an agency and they are saying through Google Ads that there are ten times more enquiries / leads coming through.  However our form submissions are much less and those that are coming through none are Google Ads.  Everything is set up on Hubspot.  Our agency has suggested the below as a problem with hubspot:

When a user clicks an ad, it creates a URL like the one below, which includes all the required tracking information for both Google Analytics and Hubspot (I've highlighted the HubSpot specific parameters):

https://apprentify.com/digital-marketing-apprenticeships/?utm_term=recruit%20digital%20marketing%20a...

However, when a user then clicks the Enquire Now button, the URL becomes the following:

https://apprentify.com/contact/

All of that useful tagging information is stripped away from the URL and therefore when a form has been submitted, HubSpot will have no idea where the lead came from as the parameters it requires to do so are no longer in the URL.

Is this correct? If so is there a solution?

Would this be the same if we used Hubspot landing pages for Google Ads?

It's hard to say exactly what is going on without seeing what is going on. There are many contributing factors to conversion attribution that can cause numbers to be different. If you are seeing 4 adwords conversions in Hubspot and 16 in Adwords it could be due to attribution modeling. Or if it could be due to someone visiting multiple pages.

So using your example if you built the conversion pages on Hubspot you could see the same discrepancy.  However, if we assume that someone cannot go to a second page where the UTM parameters could be lost. So let's say you build the landing page in Hubspot, but link to a form on your main site, the variables would still be lost by clicking a link on the page. In this instance, then your numbers should match up.

Per my last message, did you try building an active list to check for anyone who clicked on one of your ads, and also submitted the form to see whether your current mark of 4 gets closer to the 16 they are tracking?

To your other question about the original source, yes that field is only written to if it is blank, so it should not be changed at any point later in the process.  The reason for this is as you work to build out a more complex attribution model, you will want to know where to spend money to fill the top of your funnel, as well as where to spend to keep people moving through the funnel to be advertising and connecting with your audience along the journey.

That is correct. This is true of any website without additional development whether you use Hubspot CMS, Wordpress, Drupal, Squarespace, Wix, etc.,  etc.. If you want to carry parameters from page to page, you will need to build in a mechanism to do this, or to store them (ie: cookies, sessions, etc.) for the form submission.

However, with that said, if someone visits from an ad, and then converts on your site, the Original Source for that visitor will show as an ad because they converted from the ad.  If it's not an original source for your lead (ie: they converted before), you could see who converted from an active list to see anyone who has engaged with an ad and submitted the form(s) recently.

So what you are saying is that the original source will kept no matter but the Google ads data will be lost keyword, campaign etc.

My agency are saying we had 16 conversions from ads in the last two weeks when we can only see 4.  They are now saying that that due to the URL being stripped that the ads are not being reported right on Hubspot and probably going down as another source.

Would this be the same if we used Hubspot landing pages for Google Ads?
