Does anyone have a workaround to stop a contact owner from removing themselves without assigning the contact to someone else? ie, I don't want the contact to be left unassigned
The scenario:
A sales contact owner wants to give up a contact and instead of following our process to reassign it to a specific user which forces them to complete some dependent fields, they will change it to No Owner, bypassing the required information. Typically, they are not recording anythinig in the contact record so we don't know what has transpired with the contact.
Clearly a performance management and/or training issue, however I'd like to see if I can remove that option.
User would then have to, for example, add a note to a record and @ an admin, requesting the change of ownership. The admin could then make sure the field does not stay empty.
If you want to leave the option of changing the owner to the users, you could also consider setting up a workflow that enrolls records where the owner is unknown, then delays for up to a day, for example, then checks whether the record is still unowned, and if yes, notifies an admin. This would not prevent the issue but at least surface it.
Hope this helps!

I'm pleased to report that I already have a workflow that alerts me when there is no owner.
Your suggestion could be useful however, at the moment, the ability for owners to reassign their contacts outweighs my wish to stop them changing to no owner.
