Changing shown properties in the inbox

Hello everyone,

We would like to edit various properties for the respective contact on the right-hand side when viewing a message in the inbox. Currently, I can’t find a way to add a new property there that will be visible for all users in our HubSpot account and the inbox. Could you help me with this issue?

Please refer to the attached screenshot for reference.

Yes, customizing the properties that appear in the right-hand preview panel (including in the Conversations Inbox) is possible — although it’s a bit hidden!

To change these properties for all users:

1. Go to Settings.

2. Navigate to Objects > Contacts > Preview Customization.

3.Click the blue text link that says “update preview cards” (see attached screenshot).

4.From here, you can select which properties should be shown in the sidebar preview — these changes will apply globally and appear in the inbox view as well.

Hope this clears things up and saves someone else from the same hunt 😄

This doesn't work:

1. edit the card: 

2. Refresh inbox - there is no correlation between the changes just made and the properties seen in the right sidebar inbox preview ('about this contact' shows a tonne of randon different properties):

 Are there other settings somewhere else in Hubspot that might be overiding this? It's stunning how difficult this is, another example of baffling UX which really doesn't fit the monthly pricetag. If the service was cheap, I'd have no gripes, but there are soooooo many examples of either overcomplicated UX (like this) in Hubspot, or a complete lack of functionality.

I encountered this issue for one user, where certain views were not updating as expected. It appeared that the user had already configured their own view, which seemed to interfere with the setup we implemented—as outlined in the post above. I contacted the Support Team to request a reset of the view. Once this was completed, the view displayed correctly. It might be worth trying this approach.

...ok, so brief udate - shoutout to @AmberGillie who found (at least for me part of) the solution! 

Trick is to update: update preview cards --> 'edit contact property list'

.....However, while I can add it items to the property list here, there are a load of custom properties which still show in the inbox preview regardless of whether they are selected here, which creates a tonne of clutter.

...Please could we just get a button in the inbox which says 'customize info preview' or something along those lines, so we can add & delete from the preview as and when we need.

Hi HanzWil,

After testing several different methods, I finally figured this out. You need to go to the Contacts Settings, and then to "Preview Customization" (sorry I can't provide a link as it's account specific.

then you will need to click on the text towards the top that says "update preview cards". Select the card that says "Edit Contact Property List" - that is where you can update your properties!

I have encountered the same problem, changing the "About this record" section does not apply the changes in this view.

Hello Karsten, thank you very much for the quick reply. Unfortunately, I still can't solve it. If I adjust the ‘about this contact’ properties in the default settings, then this only applies to the contact page. The ‘about this contact’ properties in the inbox column on the right side are still in a different order. I would like to change them in the inbox.
