Using hubspot as a chat management solution

My team has already implemented its own customer facing chat front end. We want to use Hubspot as a chat management solution for our agents by connecting our customer facing chat front end to the chat management console via API. Given we dont want to use the Hubspot widget, is this possible? Hubspot sales informed us it was but we arent seeing a way to circumvent the widget via API calls/documentation.
