Merge request returns "Json node is missing child properties"

Greetings,

I'm using the online docs for Merge two contact records, but keep getting back "Json node is missing child properties". I've alternated between single and double quotes, to no avail.

Can anyone provide some guidance? I'm making many other API POST calls with no issue.
