I want to associate a contact to a company in workflow

SOLVE

I created a workflow where it copies company's  custom properties to contact's custom properties. I want to associate a contact to that company before doing this. How do I achieve this in a workflow? how do I associate a contact enrolling into the workflow to a specifi ccompany?

Hi @Sugapriya9293

Assuming that HubSpot's built in function to automatically create and associated Company records based on the contact's email domain isn't suitable for your requirements;

There isn't a native solution to create an association between objects in a workflow to the best of my current knowledge (it is frequently discussed here on the community). Possible solutions to look at:

  1. It might be possible to create the association using Zapier
  2. If you have Ops Hub Pro, a custom coded workflow action could probably do it
  3. Insycle has a HubSpot app that offers in-workflow associations

Hope this helps?

Did you get anywhere with this?

(I have hit the same problem - I don't want to auto create companies - I just want to auto associate contacts with existing companies...)

Hi @Sugapriya9293,

As @Phil_Vallender noted, there is currently no way to do this. However there is a new public beta available that makes more of your associated data available in workflows, which may be able to improve your process here.

I also wanted to mention that Insycle (full disclosure, I work there) allows you to associate in Workflows. Insycle allows for you to associate contacts, companies, deals, and custom objects in bulk, using any field in your database as a matching field. Additionally, you can easily copy fields from one object to another at the same time, which sounds like it may be helpful to you. You can also manage primary associations/labels/child-parent associations.

Best,

Ryan

Hi Phil,

I went throgh the answers from this link : https://community.hubspot.com/t5/CRM/Workflow-Associate-Contact-to-Company/m-p/270034/highlight/true.... It says setting the contact's website URl to match the company's domain name will create an association. I tried this with a workflow but the assciation is not happening. Am I missing something?

Hi @Sugapriya9293

I wasn't actually famialir with that feature until now, but according to the documentation it applies only to freemail email domains, i.e. gmail, so perhaps that's why it didnt work in your tests?

From: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/crm-setup/automatically-create-and-associate-companies-with-contacts :

"If the contact has a freemail email account (e.g., gmail.com, yahoo.com), HubSpot will also look at the contact's Website URL property to attempt to match the contact with a company's domain name."

Hope this helps.
