How to connect our own external server script to our HubSpot account?

Hello,

We need to use periodically a server script to sync our (custom) CRM contacts database with our HubSpot account contacts.

So far we have created a developer account, a testing portal, and also enabled the CRM/Sales tools for testing.

The question now is: Should we use Client ID and Client secret to authenticate from within the external server script? As long as I understand we do not need to mess with Oauth having in mind we try to access our own content from our own server script. What is the best practice in such case?
