Does API Trigger Subscription Confirmation Email when Double Opt-In is Enabled

Will a contact that is synced through an API automatically receive the Opt-In Request email when the double opt-in setting is turned on? is it different for the Contact API vs the Forms API? 

 

I can only find information from 2017 and it is not super clear on the Double Opt-In setup page

 

Right now I have Double Opt-In turned on with the "disable for some pages only" but also want to know if it is different for the other options "All pages" and "Enable for some pages only"

Yes, I saw that, I was wondering if this was still the case since the knowledge article says "New contacts created through an import or API will need to have their subscription types confirmed too."

 

But now that I look at the article again - it says it like right at the top.
