Disabling the 'Always create contact for new email address' setting via the API

We have forms that are hosted externally to Hubspot and we use the forms api to create the form and pass submissions into Hubspot.

 

However I have noticed that the forms are always creating a new contact for each new email. Is there a way to turn this setting off using the forms API?

Hey, @ARoach4 👋 Great question. These settings are available in-app only. Either in the settings for a specific form or in your Portal settings — Settings > Marketing > Forms > Submission settings. Looking at the Forms API documentation, there isn't an additional param or property we can send to alter this behaviour. 

 

Before we ask our community members if they have any workarounds, can you tell us more about your use case and why you want to disable the creation of new contacts? Is there a duplication issue? Or is it something else? Knowing this may help our members understand if there is any way to tackle this challenge.

thank you so much for the reply!

Essentially the forms that are created via the API are creating duplicate contacts with different emails after somone has changed job or used a personal email etc. I am not able to change the setting in the editor as there are no fields in the hubspot form editor. We also have a considerable number of forms and the time to go through and change this manually across all forms would take far too long!
