I'm looking to integrate Hubspot Conversations functionality into out site but I want more control over when the live chat widget pops. From what I can tell it is always visible on the targeted URLs but we want to pop it when the user clicks a live chat button and hide it away when the chat box is quit/minimized.
Is this something we can easily achieve?

There isn't currently a 'Conversations API' that allows for programatic access to the chat widget; all configuration is currently done in-app. I can understand how useful that'd be though; if you have the inclination, I would encourage you to check out the Ideas Forum on the HubSpot Community. There, you can create a post including your use case that product and other customers can see.
