While I'm not too familar with Telnet, digging into it, it seems that you may want to avoid using Telnet as it suffers from serious security issues.
That being said, I'd suggest for you to check your credentials validitity in your HubSpot portal (Marketing > Email > SMTP tab) where it'll display your all your SMTP tokens information and from there you can also click to generate smtp token. You can learn more here: SMTP API Overview | SMTP API

We went through the SMTP API token creation process.
We're not very familiar with modifying our SMTP client to connect to an SMTP service that requires authentication. We wanted to confirm our credentials before we tried switching over.
I'll create a post asking whether the UNIX sendmail can be configured to work with HubSpot and if so, how to set it up.
