Adding more object records based on workflow

Hi!

We are trying to solve the problem our client encounters with.

The goal is to make scheduled updats of the custom object (adding more records from 3rd party apps) for aexample in a daily bases.

Retriving data from the 3rd party apps easilly can be acheived by custom code worflow actions. However would it  be possible to  set up a trigger outside of the record, that applies to the object itself? Or is it possible to set up such a workflow that would triger based on time, once a day once a week etc...
