Access Forms for App Events in UAT vs Production Apps
SOLVE
Our app was created before the Projects framework was introduced. Currently, we’re using Timeline Events from the UI and Custom Actions in our QA and local environments. However, Timeline Events are not available in our UAT and production environments.
We plan to migrate to App Events within the Projects framework for our production KrispCall app, which will be listed on the HubSpot Marketplace once approved.
For our UAT app, we don’t intend to publish it to the Marketplace — it’s only used for internal testing before production release. Based on the documentation, it seems that App Events are intended for Marketplace apps, while Custom Events are more suitable for other integrations.
Could someone please confirm:
Whether we can use Custom Events for our UAT environment (non-Marketplace app), and App Events for our production Marketplace app?
Whether there’s a different access request form for UAT environments, or if the existing App Events access request applies only to production apps?
Thanks in advance for your help and clarification!
To clarify, app events are intended for public distribution only. They're only intended for use by marketplace providers or folks looking to distribute their apps to their customers.
If you are looking to build or update your private app, you will need to use custom events:
"The app events described in this documentation are intended for apps built by app partners for the App Marketplace. To build custom event reporting for other types of integrations, you can instead use custom events."
Given that currently there are only App events and Custom events, I would not expect there to be a separate UAT app event access request form.
I hope this helps!

Hi @SPyakurel and welcome to the HubSpot Community! 👋
Thank you for describing your integration scenario, this is an excellent question for the HubSpot Community on the distinction between Custom Events and App Events when developing both UAT (internal testing) and production (Marketplace) apps.
