Shower thoughts 💭 🚿

61 years ago, "The Jetsons" wowed us all with their futuristic world. A place that seemed light-years away from reality. This animated vision of the future captured our imagination. During the 1960s, the time of "The Jetsons", people were transitioning to dial pad phones, floppy disks, and watching humans set foot on the moon. Now, fast-forward to 2023, and it feels like we're living in a world somewhat reminiscent of the Jetsons'. In just 60 years, we've seen many technological advancements. It's also intriguing to note that some of these advancements (AI, self-teaching bots, self-driving cars) have taken off faster than we might have expected. Clearly, we're curious and smart beings who deliver results! But now, looking ahead, the Metaverse, a digital universe where humans and technology coexist, appears on the horizon. Perhaps repurposing of Mars as a second planet for humans. Other than this, it's really hard for me to envision what the next future will be. So, here's the big shower thought running through my mind: Where will AI lead us, and what colour does that paint for our future, 2083? --- This post was migrated from connect.com and was originally published at an earlier date.

I believe the most intriguing effect of dealing with AI as we've been doing is how it makes us ponder about thinking itself. In other words, we're enhancing our metacognition because it's not just about learning a language when using AI; it's about adopting a thought process that compels us to grasp more intricate cognitive processes, ultimately aiding in better self-understanding. I consider this the most significant yet less apparent effect. ...I also think it would be quite cool to immerse ourselves in a metaverse, much like the classic cyberpunk novels I adore... --- This post was migrated from connect.com and was originally published at an earlier date.

And thank you for being so bold to share your thoughts I really appreciate your five points. 1. I wonder how long we can maintain our tech world if we do not change how we source power. Do you have additional thoughts on energy conservation? Or any recommendations for books? I'd love to explore this topic more. 2. I am a little uneasy with the thought of traveling to Mars. But I can't help but wonder how we would adapt if it did come to that. I must agree with you, though; Earth, to me, will always be home. And I would clean my house before packing up and moving any day. 3. Noted, I will no longer be saying "self-driving cars"... would autonomous cars or Robocar do? In the same breath, would it be an autonomous plane or Roboplane? 4. If we had access to life extension, how would that be regulated? We're already overpopulated; who will decide who gets longevity? 5. I'm part of the community using AI every day. Honestly, I didn't even try to push back on integrating it into my life. I don't think it would make us wiser, as I agree it's becoming increasingly capable. You might already know about Google's Robot being able to teach itself. I believe that robots are emotional intelligence away from being Superhumans. 🤖🧠 As humans, we seem ready to live amongst the bots, but do you think the sci-fi movies are right in that the bots may not want us? 🫣 --- This post was migrated from connect.com and was originally published at an earlier date.

Thanks for kicking off this discussion. My two cents: 1) We will need a clean, sustainable energy source to power all the advancements we create. 2) I personally lean towards keeping our *current* planet inhabitable and sustainable vs. trekking all the way out to Mars. 3) We are close to self-driving cars -- I'm hoping for self-flying personal vehicles. I hesitate saying "flying cars", because that phrase will likely sound silly someday, just like "horseless carriages". 4) I think we will have major advances in healthcare and longevity. 5) And, A.I. will be part of the fabric of our daily lives as it becomes increasingly capable. --- This post was migrated from connect.com and was originally published at an earlier date.
