I have set up a list of journalists / media people and I want to supply them with press releases for my customers --> I act as a PR agency and send out press releases in the CI of my customers. Would you recommend using Hubspot for that or do you see any problems with this? The thing is, the common PR Tools suck - their addresses are never up to date and it’s hard for my customers, who are no experts, to manage those tools, so I would like to take this over from them and of course make a service out of it. Do you see any limitations in terms of CI etc.?
Thanks for your opinion,
Nadia
Great question! Generally, I don’t see any reasons not to use HubSpot for sending press releases. HubSpot has features for contact and consent management as well as a strong drag and drop email creation tool which are the foundation for what you’re trying to do. A few of my customers are using HubSpot for press communication and it’s working well.
The only area where HubSpot lacks functionality is that it’s not possible to create a separate email preference page for marketing and for press. Usually, press communication gets its own subscription type in HubSpot. This will always be displayed alongside marketing subscription types. If you’re using HubSpot for press communication only then that’s not an issue. Also, this doesn’t break the user experience if a marketing contact sees a press subscription on their preference page and vice versa.
If you have any specific press-related requirements that you or I haven’t mentioned, let me know.
Hi @karstenkoehler
Many thanks for your swift reply. I am not sure if I get you right. I use Hubspot for marketing communication / sales as well, so I would need to differentiate contacts some more, i.e. by industry or so. I am used to working with labels from other tools, and I don’t see an easy way in how to do this in my contacts in Hubspot. Any other way to label contacts besides creating separate lists? Thanks in advance.
Definitely, happy to elaborate on this point a bit more. To segment your contacts and not have regular contacts and press contacts mix, you would use custom properties: Create and edit properties
These would work like tags or labels on contacts. For example, I’d recommend maintaining a “Contact type” dropdown property where you specify whether a contact is a prospect/customer or a press contact. This would allow you to include/exclude contacts from specific communication and also easily build lists.
(Generally it’s best practice to not manually maintain lists but to label contacts and then have lists filter for those labels or in HubSpot terms, the custom properties.)
I have some additional questions regarding press releases:
1. Is it possible to create a new mailing subscription type titled something like ‘press release’?
2. I will need to upload the press contacts in bulk through an excel file. In these cases, do I need to opt them into transactional and marketing mailings? Or can I just subscribe them into the potential special subscription mentioned in my first question?
3. I noticed the one-to-one subscription type as well. What does this mean exactly?
In addition, I tried to create the special contact property value named ‘press release’. Where can I tag the contacts with this property value? Is it during the stage when I create the list?
